Gigi Hadid co-hosted The AMAs this year (November 20, 2016) alongside Jay Pharoah, rapper and comedian. With her wardrobe ready for the spotlight Gigi hit the red carpet and the stage putting on a show with her beautiful choices. She wore one outfit for the red carpet and five outfits for the main stage (really poor comparing with Jennifer Lopez’s eleven outfits last year).
Gigi stuck to a modest number of changes and she explained her decision before the ceremony: “We did our research and J-Lo’s team told us to do less changes. I’m going with about half, but they’re great looks and they’re going to get a good amount of time.”
Gigi’s arrival look was a white lace off-the-shoulder Roberto Cavalli gown. Plenty of skin shown through the gorgeous lace patterns.
Roberto Cavalli – Spring 2017 Collection
She opened the show with a custom sparkling red dress from Atelier Versace paired with Le Silla red pumps. The gown was kind of risqué because of the cutouts down the side and the revealing thigh-high slit.
She stepped in a white chain embellished trophy jacket with exaggerated shoulders and a pair of matching high wasted shorts. This outfit was adapted from a suit from Julien MacDonald’s Spring 2017 Collection. The metal tassels hung from Gigi’s forearms gave us the idea of sparkly fringes. She paired her suit with strappy sandals.
For her third appearance on the stage she chose another Julien Macdonald outfit, a nude leather crocodile print dress with some cut-outs and a matching choker. The skin dress had a plunging neckline, cut away sides and high choker neckline. She matched her outfit with high tan sandals. This neutral choice contrasted the last two outfits, it was like a strategic move made by the stylists. Both Julien MacDonald outfits will be in stores this February.
The fourth look was a dramatic move. Gigi wore a sparkling black gown with structured shoulders by Nicolas Jebran with a high neckline, thigh-high slit and key hole detail. The supermodel accessorized it with a long gold necklace.
Her last outfit was a casual disco themed jumpsuit by Atelier Versace paired with Dsquared2 silver lace-up sandals and a drawstring waistband. Through the sheer fabric you could see the silver athletic wear that she was wearing underneath. This see-through jumpsuit gave us some ’90s vibes for sure.
These statement outfits made next morning’s headlines and I couldn’t see anyone other than presenting the show Gigi Hadid, the supermodel who is taking over the world.
